What To Wear For Reformer Pilates Classes

What to wear for reformer pilates classes

One of the questions we’re often asked is about what to wear for Pilates class. When it comes to clothing, reformer pilates is similar to other pilates classes you may have been to. As a handy guide, we’ll answer the most common questions we get asked about clothing.

What to wear for reformer pilates classes

1. What do I wear on my feet?

When you enter the studio, you will be asked to remove your shoes, but keep your socks on. This is not just for hygiene reasons, but for safety as well. Having something on your feet will create a barrier between you and the bed (grip) and it will be easier for you to carry out the exercises. Ordinary socks are fine, but it would be better to have socks with extra grip. We have our own non-slip Chilli Pilates trainer socks and ballet socks which will help you focus on your exercises rather than your feet when using the equipment! Available through the Chilli Shop

2. What clothing do I wear?

If you’re looking for pilates outfit ideas, don’t worry too much about buying special clothing. Socks are the only mandatory clothing we ask you to wear. Our pilates classes involve a lot of movement, therefore we would recommend clothing that is not too tight, but so loose that it will catch on the bed. Clothing that you would normally wear in a gym environment is fine, but we recommended that you wear layers. It can take a while to warm up,  so a light long-sleeved top that you can easily take off at the beginning of the session is ideal.

3. Do I need gloves?

Our reformer beds provide enough resistance to give you a great workout. As long as you don’t have any issues with gripping a bar or holding straps, gloves will not be required. Hygiene will not be an issue as we ask everyone to clean the bed they’re using with antibacterial wipes before and after each session. The wipes are provided by us. This means there is no need for gloves, but if you’d feel more comfortable wearing them, please feel free to bring your own.

4. What Do I Need to Bring to Pilates Class?

We provide all the exercise equipment and, as we mentioned earlier, antibacterial wipes which we’ll ask you to clean your bed with before and after each session. Socks are the only thing you must bring – everything else is up to you. We recommend bringing a bottle of water as reformer pilates can be thirsty work! It’s also possible you may work up a bit of a sweat, so it might be an idea to bring a small towel – if you’d like to be on-brand, you can buy a 100% cotton Chilli Pilates towel for only £10.

If you have any other questions you’d like us to answer, feel free to email us at info@chillipilates.co.uk. If you have never done reformer pilates before and would like to try it out before you commit, we have a special offer for a trial lesson for only £10. You can also invite a friend to try it with you for free! We look forward to seeing you.
